For Memorial Day weekend, Andre and I were going to travel to NYC to visit my parents and our friends. We had to change our plans at the last minute because our chances of getting on a standby flight to LAX to catch our connecting flight to JFK was getting slimmer by the second. So after some tears and heartache (I haven’t been home in two years!), we decided to hop on a flight to Kona on the Big Island and spend time with his family over there. His parents were already there so they came to pick us up at KOA and we drove up the Kohala coast to Hawi. (more…)

Eggettes
My favorite snack when I was little was called “gai daan tsai”, which is translated to “little eggs” and referred to more commonly in English as “eggettes”. You can get these from street vendors or small snack shops in Hong Kong. I remember when I was little, I spent some time in Hong Kong with my grandparents, aunts, and uncles. My grandfather would take me for a walk and buy gai daan tsai for me. It is a fond childhood memory that still brings a smile to my face. (more…)
