Braised Tako
It’s the weekend and Andre went spear fishing again. Today he came home with a tako, or octopus. He showed me a really cool video of him capturing the tako. We have a waterproof video camera that is mounted to his spear gun so he was able to record his underwater adventures. (more…)

Steamed uhu in foil
We have been going spear fishing every weekend so far. Well, Andre has been spear fishing and I have been frolicking in the sand. The weather has been perfect here: sunny, blue skies, high 80s with a light breeze. Lucky live Hawaii! (more…)

Braised oxtail
Oxtail was something my mom cooked when I was growing up. I love the tenderness of the meat and the gelatinous tendons around the bone. Much to my surprise, Andre likes eating oxtail too. Oxtail ramen and saimin is actually really popular in Hawaii. The local 24 hour diner, Zippy’s, even serves up oxtail soup and the best oxtail ramen, in my opinion, is at Ramen Nakamura in Waikiki.
